I watched some of the telecast of the Miss World 2007 on Saturday. I watched the dance performance which looked rather like an acrobatics and gymnastics combined together rather a pure ballet routine. We all know how good China is in gymnastics.
Congratulations to Ms Zhang Zilin. For the first time a Chinese girl has won a international beauty contest title. Did she deserve to win? Well, she is certainly physically attractive and very tall indeed. For her customary interview, she was asked to tell something about herself in 40 seconds. She was saying if she becomes Miss World she can be a link to China and blah blah...something about Beijing Olympics blah, blah...
It really sounded like she was campaigning for herself and China in halting English. But alas she won the title. Not that it matters that the event was held in China. Not that it matters that next year China will be holding the 2008 Olympics.
We have read about fake branded goods, fake software, even fake meat from China. What kind of scandal can we expect to spin off from this event? Fake boobs (I think if this were true then she should get her money back), fake face - painted with lead paint, etc. I wonder if they will recall her if this were true.
